Speaker Sister Mary Ellen O’Boyle

On Thursday, November 13th 2014, Sister Mary Ellen O’Boyle visited and spoke to the whole class. We had interviewed her before and had asked her to revisit. Sister Mary Ellen O’Boyle is a great person who has fought sex trafficking and modern day slavery for 8 years, and has made a very big difference. She often speaks to groups at high-schools, so this was her first time speaking to a middle school class. Sister Mary Ellen showed us a website called slaveryfootprint.org and walked us through the steps on how to find out how much products in our homes are produced by slave labor. She also told us about her safehouse. In her safehouse, she helps about 5 women at a time recover from sexual abuse. She currently holds 5 beds in her safehouse so they may have a bed to sleep in at night. Sister Mary Ellen O’Boyle is a very intelligent person and inspires me to fight more!
