Liz Murray!

Name: Jamie Neiberg

Social Justice Group: 2018-2019, Homelessness & Education

Date of Fieldwork: November 30, 2018

Name of Organization: The Arthur Project

Person (people) with whom I met and their job titles: Liz Murray

Type of Fieldwork: Interview

What I did:

We met with Liz Murray, Homeless to Harvard, about her experience with homelessness.

What I learned:

I learned about how, to her, the worst part of homelessness is the feeling that you are not self-sufficient. She said she had to rely on others for bathrooms, beds, food, and money. She explained that the guilt you feel walking down the street and not giving money to someone begging is good because it means you care enough to feel guilt.

What I learned about Social Justice “work” and/or Civil and Human rights “work” from this fieldwork:

Both she and Ben Chapman believe lack of affordable housing is causing the homeless cycle. She also mentioned a lot about what our society chooses to value.
