Holy Apostles Soup Kitchen 12•15•15

On Tuesday, Layne, Sophie and I went to Holy Apostles Soup Kitchen. We got there around 9:15. They didn’t give us our job’s until around 10:15. Durring that time, Sophie, Layne and I got food. They had set up a little table for the volunteers filled with food and coffee. At 10:15, we were all assigned our job’s. I was assigned to the fruits, Layne was assigned to the collard greens, and Sophie was assigned to the salad. We spent a whole two hours doing this. There would be an order. The order went like so, the first person got a tray and put a piece of bread on it, the second person was the fruit person, the third person was salad, the fourth was collard greens, the fifth was beef stew, and the sixth and final person put forks, knifes, spoons and napkins on the tray. There was one other big group there and they go there every year for school. There was also a lady playing the violin while people were eating. In total we probably served about 700-800 people total, which was very impressive in my thinking.

I am an eighth grader at LREI and this year my social justice project is on Hunger in NYC. I chose Hunger in NYC because Hunger is such a big problem in the world and in NYC. Hunger is important because so many people in NYC don't have enough to buy food for dinner or breakfast.
