Family Style Lunch in the Cafeteria

Dear Parents,

If you have a second, third, or fourth grader you may have heard them talking about our new family style lunch in the cafeteria.  This year, rather than waiting in a long line with a tray, kids are sharing food set in serving dishes in the center of each table.  Continuing the lunch routines of early childhood and first grade, they are passing each other food and helping each other clean up.  Teachers and students alike are enjoying the more civilized atmosphere of conversation and shared cooperation.

I asked some second and third graders their opinions on family style lunch and the new lunch jobs and here is what they said.

It actually seems quieter.  –Gwen

I like it very much.  I like that there are waiters. –Aidhan

Eating in the cafeteria is better because you get more things, like the salad bar. –Yannik

You get more food because you have all the food in front of you. –Ryann

I really like it because I no longer have to go to the line to get my food. –River

I really liked being a waiter because I came down early to do my job. –Sophia

I liked being a waiter because you get the food first. –Tallulah

Sincerely,
Namita Tolia
