LCS – Some General Thoughts
What do you think about this quote from the Josephson Institute of Ethics:
The older a person is, the more likely she or he will express strong ethical values and refrain from dishonest and unethical conduct. Those over 30 steal, lie, and cheat less than college students. College students, steal, lie, and cheat less than high school students. It’s not that young people do not understand the difference between right and wrong, it’s that they don’t seem to have the character or will to do what they know is right.
So you’ve done something wrong. Why would you confess and get yourself and maybe even your friends into trouble?
We often act like people we admire and respect. Many modern day heroes are admired for their success, not their virtues. What’s the difference?
Why would you want to do the right thing in every situation?
Sometimes you must choose between what you want and what you want to be. Have you ever been in a situation in which this made sense?

Lying cheating and stealing are not good things for lots of reasons. One: It makes you feel guilty and it is very likely to get caught and land you in a lot of trouble. Two: you might think that you are doing something good at the moment, but afterwards, if you get caught, or if you think about what you did, it will weigh on you for a very long time.
I agree with Ciro because when you do something bad you feel really guilty. Also if you get caught you can get in big trouble.
I, too, agree because guilt is like a monster you create with your own hands that haunts you everyday, every second.
it would probably be good to confess but it still isn’t like that’ll do you a huge amount of good.
it is best not to get yourself stuck in this trap in the first place because its not something that you can get out of easily.
I would confess because then I wouldn’t have guilt inside me for a long period of time. Also, my instinct would tell me to confess to someone.
I would want to do the right thing in almost any situation because then I wouldn’t be sitting in a pool of my own guilt. Also, my instinct and my inner self would tell me to confess/ do the right thing.
I couldn’t agree more. I always confesse because i can never handle the guilt.
I couldn’t agree more. I always confesse because i can never handle the guilt. :>
I would confess also, my parents remind me almost every day that I can tell me anything and that I should always do the right thing and also that they wouldn’t be as mad if I told the truth. If I ever did something wrong ‘d be reminded of it everyday. I would be living in my own guilt.
Same, I would tell the truth. I would have the guilt me thinking of it every day.
I agree with Sophie because if I don’t confess, I get all nervous and start to think that people will find out that I lied, or stole something, or anything and I would feel really guilty. Also I would want to confess to someone because I know that that is the right thing to do.
I agree. Also if you do the three things you can caught and get in big trouble.
I agree I hate having guilt and I would do the right thing and confess.
I would confess because I would know that it is wrong. And that is a terrible feeling to feel.
I would want to do the right thing because morally you wouldn’t feel good and just feel terrible.
it makes you kind of paranoid, your gut twists and you can’t go to sleep. but once you sort it all out you feel a sense of calm come over you in a way you can barely remember what it felt like.
I would probably tell a white lie because I could still to stuff just not feel as bad about saying something totally untruthful.
The reason I would confess because inside you feel guilty inside and you can never forget that moment. Rather than if you tell then you don’t have to worry about it.
If i would steal i would feel guilty for a while but i would forget about it 1-2 months
i think that lying and cheating are not as bad as stealing. for example the person could go to jail for stealing but not lying of cheating
I think that lying, cheating, and stealing are not good things to do in general, but I think that the worst can also be lying. I think this because lying about specific things that are really important can effect everything socially and between your family.
I agree. I think that their can also be different types of lies. Like a white lie. A white lie is when someone tells a lie but not to hurt the other person. Its because that message is either private or sacred.
it can also get you stuck in some tight spots which you can’t squeeze yourself out of
i agree because you can always make up for lying or cheating but when you steal you will always feel bad.
I would not lie unless it was my family or a really really close friend and I would be saving their life. The reason I wouldn’t lie is because after you lie, even if it is really small and not that big of a deal you are guilty until someone knows you lied. After that you are just upset that you lied.
I feel that lying is bad unless it’s for a good reason. For cheating I just think that’s the wrong choice, I think that it’s not good ever to cheat on a test, or in a sport game. (Also in a board game or card game, because some people are really competitive). Stealing is never ever good, that’s the wrong decision and I feel no one should ever do that.
