Basketball Camp

This summer I went to a week a basketball camp in upstate New York. I have been playing basketball for around five years and went to camp to build my skills. I went with my two friends, Five and Holly, and we had a great time. Every day we would get dropped off and went to our groups to meet up and go to the court. At the court, we would stretch than we would start the warm up. After the warm up, we played shooting games, such as knockout and Horse.  Next, we played a scrimmage with our group to figure what skills needed to be worked on. Once the coaches knew what needed to be worked on, we would split up and do drills.  Finally, we got on the bus and played the other camps.  Every day was fantastic.

During the camp, I learned many things. One of my favorite things I learned was a dribbling skill called “1,2,3” which is a crossover, behind the back, move. When I first tried the move, I found it to be very hard. As the week went on, I became better and better at it. I discovered if I kept practicing and didn’t give up I would really learn the skill. Another thing I built on was my sportsmanship. Throughout the camp I made sure I was not a sore loser or a sore winner, I cheered on my team, and gave high fives to everyone.

Attending basketball camp was a great experience and throughout I felt I was becoming a better person, player, and teammate.

Getting ready to take the court. The only sound you hear from me is “Swish.” This is what winning looks like.

It sounds like you did a lot this summer! From playing basketball to watching the US Open it seems you had an amazing summer. I also went to the us open and I saw Tsonga, Serena, Venus, Djokovic, and others.

Dash, I am happy to hear that you enjoyed basketball camp and worked so hard to practice your crossover. I think sports camps are a great way to see how important it is to spend many hours improving and practicing skills. Hopefully you will take what you learned and apply it this year- on the basketball court and in the classroom!
