Parzival Essay

The Parzival essay really showed what Parzival really is. I’m starting to really emerge as a writer and am excited to see what else I can do.

Final Piece:
Every choice you make is free will, even the smallest things. Without free will, you wouldn’t be you. In the book, Parzival, by Katherine Paterson, a boy named Parzival is hidden from the outside world by his mother. When two knights come, Parzival choses to go out to the real world to find out more about himself and eventually rises to royalty by being a quick learner, making tough decisions, and being kind.

Parzival became king because he was a quick learner. “He raised his javelin and hurled it through the gap in the Sir Ither’s helmet.” Pg.28. Parzival, a boy who never fought anything in his life, defeated one of the most deadly enemies to ever live. Parzival just arrived from his little bubble of secrecy, hidden from the outside world and never seen anyone except his
mother and the peasants on his mother’s farm. He has been in the outside world for not even two days and he has already accomplished the impossible. Not only could he learn things fast, but he was a good decision maker.

Parzival claimed the throne because he could make tough decisions. “”Because she loved him so much, she let him go.” Pg.46 Parzival had finally found the love of his life and now has to leave her by herself with a kingdom that needs a ruler. For Parzival, things were finally going his way and then chose to go to see his mother, after finally finding his love. Little does Parzival know that this little visit to his mom was a terrible mistake. Not only was Parzival good at making choices, but he was also very nice.

Parzival rose to power by being kind. “For three days, the prisoners received good food and tender care for their wounds.” Pg.43 Instead of killing or torturing the enemy, Parzival gave them food and water, which is a rather kind thing to do for a prisoner. In this chapter Parzival has found this sad city that is under siege. Being the hero he is, stops the siege and saves the city. Parzival became king because of his gracious acts. No one ever told him to do what he did. God didn’t guide him, no one showed him the way. His journey and choices were all his. His journey was by his own free will.

The choices Parzival made changed his life forever. Without them, he’d still be on the farm with his mom. Ither would still be alive and the king of Wild Mountain would keep on receiving his brutal punishment. Your choices have power, good and bad, so use your choices wisely and maybe you will achieve greatness one day.
