Peter Mamaev graphic novel update 4/2

4/2/2020

This is the first blog documenting my artistic exploits, as well as my potential gradual descent into cabin fever-induced madness. The most apparent takeaway from me beginning my project is, it’s taking a long time. It’s taking a very long time in fact – now it’s not difficult to do a page of drawing on its own. But I am trying, at least in here pre-burnout days, to make the best quality art possible – something that, even without the use of dynamic color, is legible, interesting and appealing to look at. There are people out there in the industry who manage to single-handedly write, pencil, ink and sometimes color all their work and still have it look professional and beautiful (“Maus” being a good example), and while I likely won’t be even close to that level by the time this project is over, it is nonetheless something to strive for.

I have stocked up on ink pens and comic boards literally the day before the art shops started closing up, so I’m really hopeful this will be enough to carry me over without straining any retail workers.

At the moment it appears that I am entering a very delicate balancing act, one wherein I will have to find a way to either get my pages done faster, or sacrifice my already strained sleeping pattern in order to maintain my drawing, my (entirely extracurricular) internship, as well as any other major time-consuming concerns that are always likely to arise along the way.
