I have read about 100 pages of the first book in the Three Body Problem trilogy. So far it is really interesting and has raised questions about theoretical physics and astronomy I am interested in learning more about. The book also begins during the cultural revolution, so I have researched the cultural revolution a little bit to better help my understanding of it. As one of the main plot points in the book is a scientist plays this 3body game where he is put on a planet with three suns, and as such the planet suffers through completely unpredictable periods of calm and chaos. I looked at how this reflects Chinese experiences with communism, mainly the periods of chaos such as the cultural revolution.
