Onaje’s Project Proposal

How can I respond to a global pandemic through art?

For my Senior Project, I will make art depicting my interpretations of this outbreak.

In this project, I plan to make a series of drawings and paintings depicting what I feel to be the social, societal, and psychological effects of the coronavirus outbreak. I will be using my theories and knowledge from my Buddhism class to shape my messages, and I will do a lot of brainstorming to figure out how I can both effectively and maturely transfer that message to a piece of art. Meanwhile, I will also be doing figure drawing and anatomy studies to improve my drawing skills. I’ve been using George Bridgman’s book “Constructive Anatomy” to guide my studies.

I hope to make at least three drawings or paintings. I also hope that they show an improvement in my anatomical and perspectival skills.

I will figure draw and do anatomy studies in the morning. I will work on my pieces in the afternoon. Then I will work on them again at night.

My documentation plan is to write and sketch in my artist sketchbook. I plan to write from 4 to 4:30pm on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Each journal entry may consist of preliminary sketches to visualize any thoughts I can not describe in words. In each journal entry, I will write the process I used while painting, along with any notes I need to maintain a consistent painting style in the following days. I will jot any ideas I have. I will also list artists I have been inspired by. I will analyze their work and find out how I can apply their strategies to my work. Then I will upload this to my blog. This documentation plan makes sense since it is essentially what every artist does or must do.

Here are photos of some of the sketches and brainstorming I’ve done.
