Critical Reflection #5 Assignment: Metacognition
I have discovered a lot of things about my own work process throughout the senior project timeline. I work poorly in environments that I am used to doing other things in, such as relaxing or sleeping. This made it increasingly challenging for me to get any work done in most of the rooms of my house. I often got distracted or bored much faster than normal, constantly abandoning work and wanting to do anything else. On top of this, working without motivation is incredibly arduous. With little variation during days, it was extremely hard to feel like my work had any meaning or impact outside of my room. Without any reward to work towards, like going outside to do activities or seeing friends, my days felt like a large blur of work and not much else. Being able to go to a different environment and change my surroundings to best stimulate work and efficiency is extremely beneficial to me. It is also especially important to have a clear and satisfactory reward in sight in order to complete my tasks in a timely manner.
I still have a long way to go in terms of mastering the contents of the film industry, but I have picked up a considerable amount of information along the way. Now, every time I watch a movie or read a screenplay, I know what to look for in terms of structure and solid character foundations. I can tell when act one is over and how this transitions the plot to act two, along with understanding if a screenplay sufficiently set up its storyline within the first twenty minutes or so. This has deepened my ability to tell a great movie apart from others, and to add my own constructive criticisms that extend beyond humble opinion.
