I just finished watching the Heal documentary on Netflix. I knew nothing about it before beginning, only that it showed up when I searched wellness and seemed interesting. The film explored alternative medicine, how our mind and body are connected, and various forms of healing trauma, emotional pain and stress. I’ve grown up surrounded by traditional western medicine and scientific reasoning because my mom is a doctor so it was an interesting adjustment for me to take this new information in and try to consider it when so much of it contradicted or changed what I had come to believe in with medicine. For some reason it was also an emotional experience for me. Recently I have been overwhelmed by trying to feel as healthy and ‘well’ as possible. The research I have done in my project has been inspiring for me but also intimidating and to watch a documentary that clearly displayed the power of living a healthy lifestyle, this added to me feeling overwhelmed but also reassured me that any attempt on the path is a step, and that stressing about it will not do anything for me. Ultimately, I’ve come to believe that one of the most important parts of this process of wellness exploration for me is to be forgiving of myself as I learn. I think this is good advice for anyone, whether they are trying something new, or are simply going through their normal routine.
