Week two, Tuesday

Today we had an order of 200 burgers, 150 side salads, and 150 salads. It struck me today that all of these containers are made of plastic. Additionally, I bagged around 200 sets of plastic silverware. All of the containers are then put in a plastic bag which is then put into a brown paper bag. There is so much plastic being used here. I asked Shai about this and he pointed out that the price for using plastic is much lower compared to biodegradable alternatives. This struck me as one can see the clear decision to use plastic over eco-friendly products. Although we are helping human beings with the virus, we are not helping the environment, we are contributing to its demise. I cannot see a way around this that is cost-effective. Companies like Westville who are making money but nowhere near enough to be able to afford alternatives are forced to buy plastic silverware and containers. If they were to use alternatives the prices of the food would go up and they would lose a good chunk of their customers.
