FINAL PROPOSAL
Name: | Lucian Figliulo |
You have already written versions of your responses to many of these questions in previous assignments for Senior Project; you may reuse prior writing in completing your Senior Project Plan although edits will be required. For each question, respond thoroughly (paragraphs rather than single sentences should be the standard) with attention to grammar and punctuation.
Project Name: | Doll-Fit |
Essential Question
This should be the current, clearest version of your essential question.
What the relationship between concept and execution in fashion |
Statement of Definition
This 1-2 sentence description is your elevator pitch; it’s the short, easy to explain description of what you will do for your project.
For my Senior Project, I will…
For my senior project I will be making outfits for dolls out of mostly thrifted clothes and other sourced unconventional materials. |
Overview: Describe your topic and project to the committee.
Describe your project in detail, with attention to the reason why this project appeals to you and how you believe it will allow you to answer your essential question. What is the academic or intellectual scope of this project? How will this project challenge you? How does this project build on your prior learning or knowledge? How will you incorporate any or all of the 4Cs of the LREI education (courage, citizenship, critical thinking, creativity) or connect to the LREI mission statement (LINK)?
An issue that I often face is the difference between the concept in my head and the execution of that idea. As I move farther in my art career I would like that gap to get smaller and smaller and I hope this will help with that quite a bit. There are a couple parts to my project. The main essential part would be to design a clothing line, (5-10, depending on the speed at which I work) for porcelain dolls. I would get most of my fabric/material from thrift stores. Most shirts/pants provide more than enough fabric to make a shirt or pants for a doll, this way, and I’m saving money and upcycling, which helps the environment. I would also be doing a Fashion Photography aspect and possibly a display of some kind. This obviously includes a lot of creativity, but it also involves critical thinking in the ways I need to figure out how to scale down fashion to dolls. |
How will you measure your success?
Success should not be measured by product but by process and learning. What outcome from your project will indicate to you that your experience has been a success? What personal goals or achievements will indicate success? If you have a product-based project, what is that product, and how will you measure the success of that product?
I think If I have (at least) 5 solid, complete outfits by the end of this project I will be more then happy. Though I assume I’m going to be able to complete more. In addition learning to be a proficient hand sewer would also be a reflection of my success for the project. |
Resource List
Consider this the bibliography of Senior Project. What resources have you identified to push your understanding? List publications, institutions, media, books, websites, people with whom you have connected, etc that relate to your project. Include the book you will be reading.
Narrative –
D.V. by Diana Vfreeland Or Grace by Grace Cottingon Professional Person – Liz Kurtzman Other Sources – At least 2 fashion magazines, (Vogue, Allure) My grandmother, (regularly check in with/visit) The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute Multiple movies, (Alexander Mqceen documentary, Devil wears prada ect.) |
Daily Plan & Schedule
Describe, in as much detail as possible, what you will be doing day to day or through the course of a week. This schedule needs to make it clear how you will spend your 30 hours each week. LREI classes, clubs, and ensembles should be noted; cohort groups will likely meet first and second periods on Mondays and Thursdays. (You will also complete a log of hours worked and tasks accomplished for each week of the project).
On any given day I will spend roughly an hour getting supplies, An hour or two conceptualizing and about 3 to 4 hours of actual sewing. This will roughly add up to 6 hours a day or working 5 days a week roughly. Any day that I wouldn’t be gathering materials I would be doing a photoshoot for one of the outfits. |
Documentation Plan
Explain why this is the appropriate documentation for you and your project and how this plan fits your project. Include the platform or medium (blog, journal, Google Doc), intended frequency of updates, general description of the content (reflective writing, photos, essays, etc), the URL for digital documentation or the sharing plan for analog documentation. (Documentation must be updated at least twice per week and be accessible to the committee.)
As part of my project, I will be taking highly stylized photos of each of the outfits
that I am going to complete. In addition to this I will be taking several process photos, such as gathering materials, sketches of designs, and work in progress garments. If I am able to completely roughly one outfit a week, I will upload a series of process photos wid-week and then the final photos of the outfit, when I complete it and do a photoshoot. I will most likely Figure out a website or use google drive to display/upload the photos. While I definitely can do some writing as a supplement, I think it being such a visual project, using visual documentation seems like the strongest medium. |
Material Needs
Note the material needs you are requesting from school (including work space & monetary needs) and the needs you are filling outside of school, including materials you already own.
I need fabric and other sewing materials, all of which I will source on my own. |
Backup Plan
If something goes wrong – an internship falls through, an outside circumstance makes your project no longer feasible, you find that your project is not answering your essential question – what will you do? Ideal backup plans rely on known resources and only a single essential question.
While my project is an independent study and only involves working at home. In the worst-case-scenario where we are not allowed to leave our homes, thus I can not source fabric, I will write a roman themed alt rock musical about emperor Hadrian and his lover Antinous. I would write all the scenes and the songs for the movie, but would not shoot any of the scenes because I would not have nearly the production quality of what I am hoping for. While my essential question may be different for this project, the day to day will mostly stay the same. |
