My project will be centered around reading The Three Body Problem trilogy, written by Chinese author Cixin Liu. These books will directly help me answer my questions as a significant portion of them is set during the cultural revolution, then in modern Communist China. These books are about astronomy and relativity which are subjects that interest me a lot. I learned a lot about the basics of astronomy this year in class, and want to learn more about the abstract parts of it. 

I hope to learn more about Communist China, the cultural revolution, and astronomy from this project. I do not know much about theoretical physics and think that being introduced to some of those concepts through science fiction would be interesting and informative. Moreover, I know a little about the cultural revolution, and think I need to know more to expand on my knowledge of China’s role in this day and age. The Cultural Revolution was a period in China from 1966 to 1976 in which millions of Chinese lives were disrupted and Chairman Mao Zedong tried to reassert his control over Communist China. 

Additionally I will look at outside sources such as youtube videos and websites to learn more about physics, astronomy, the Cultural Revolution and China. Moreover, I will read books from my library, such as Son of the Revolution written by Liang Heng, or To The Storm – the Odyssey of a Revolutionary Chinese Women Written by Yue Daiyun.
