#1 – Nate (April 6th)

Hi there senior blog, it’s me Nate, and this is my first Senior Project blog post! Hooray. I don’t know if there’s an exact formula or outline we have to follow, so I’m just gonna’ write for a bit (structured, hopefully.)

So, it’s Monday, and Kamara and I’s first podcast episode is up on Spotify (and it’ll soon be on Apple Podcasts). It’s 30 minutes of us talking and dissecting the 2008 animated film Waltz With Bashir. I think we did a good job discussing it and I think we had a fairly mature and thoughtful conversation. Of course, this was our first episode, so hopefully, I (at least) will become more comfortable with the form and, as a result, will have better conversations. Listening back, I sound breathless, so hopefully as we record more I’ll get that sorted out. Also, we had some technical issues, and my audio doesn’t sound fantastic, so as we record more episodes I’ll experiment with different ways of recording my audio to get the best sound (I think recording in a small closet didn’t help with the acoustics.) But, overall, everything went really smoothly. We watched the movie on Amazon, thought about it, and came to record ready with thoughts and questions jotted down. Kamara is editing this week, so I can’t speak to his process, but I trust him to turn out a good episode and everything is mostly in his hands. Of course, I can ask him to change stuff, but I’m trying to be looser about editing and cutting every little moment and making sure it’s perfect because, I fear that if I force it into perfection, it’ll lose its soul. My hope for this podcast (our hope) is that it’s an easy to listen to conversation, about a movie, between two friends that will, ultimately, encourage the listener to watch the movie, or at least think about watching new and different films.

I’m excited to record the next episode (on Wednesday), and that’s about all I have to say!

^That’s the podcast!
