Type of Fieldwork: Interview

Reflection:

What I learned about Social Justice “work” and/or Civil and Human rights “work” from this fieldwork:

Marcy taught us so much about being an OBGYN doctor, and what that means today in society with covid, and racial bias. She told us how her job isn’t very limited, and she usually does multiple things everyday with different people, and she works up to 24 hour shifts at a time. We learned how her patients are anywhere from the ages of 8 to 90 and she said she loves helping women. She told us how a big concern right now is racial bias in hospitals, and she says that women of color in general are not being as respected, cared for or listened to in that setting. She says that she is one of the people making the decisions that affect a lot of women, and she is super glad that she is able to have a positive affect on so many women’s lives. She also told us that she loves when people have Doula’s (something that many different doctors have different ideas on) because she said anything that makes the Women feel more safe is extremely important to her. She said that her main goal is making sure this life changing experience is as positive as it can be for women.
