What I did:
What I learned:
What I learned about Social Justice “work” and/or Civil and Human rights “work” from this fieldwork:
I learned a lot from our interview with Chiney, something she told us that was inspirational was that, “Basketball is basketball, no matter the gender you should always love the game.” This was a strong thing to say. It taught me that any basketball fan should enjoy the game because now there’s a lot of NBA fans who don’t like the WNBA. Something she said that I thought was smart is that the WNBA is a new organization, but as people watch it the game will grow like the NBA did. Lastly she said that the game isn’t equal because no one will ever put it on tv. She as a broadcaster said they have more men’s games on tv when compared to women’s games, but if there were more women’s games more people would watch it. This meaning if you start watching the WNBA as a basketball fan you will see it’s similar to the NBA and immediately start to like it more and watch it a lot more. So if more people just watch a bit of the WNBA they would start watching it more until it’s balanced between men and women’s sports, meaning equal broadcasting and equal popularity. This will result in equal paychecks which is the main goal for women and men’s sports to lead to equality.
