Name: Ryder Freitag
Social Justice Group: Sports, Activism & Race
Date of Fieldwork: January 24, 2019
Name of Organization: NFL
Person (people) with whom I met and their job titles: Anna Isaacson
Type of Fieldwork: Interview
What I did:
We interviewed Anna Isaacson, who is the Vice President of Social Responsibility in the NFL, which means that she focuses on helping the NFL to make socially responsible decisions and policies. She was very helpful.
What I learned:
Through this interview, we learned a little bit about her and her role in the NFL. We asked a question about how the NFL is approaching the kneeling situation, and she said they are focusing on the groundwork and trying to make society equal. This means that she supports what Colin Kaepernick is doing.I asked a question about why the NFL is doing Play 60 (a youth football organization). She said that lots of kids don’t get enough exercise throughout the day, so their entire plan was to try to get kids to have more time each day to exercise.
What I learned about Social Justice “work” and/or Civil and Human rights “work” from this fieldwork:
Before this interview, I did not even know that the NFL had a position called Vice President for Social Responsibility. It was good to know that we have people that can try to protect the players that are stepping up and taking risks, and knowing that there’s people behind them supporting them so they’re not just alone.
