Name: Xander

Social Justice Group: Access to Sports for Kids

Date of Fieldwork: November 7, 2018

Name of Organization: Columbia University

Person (people) with whom I met and their job titles: William Roden, Dr. Glenn Bracey, Len Elmore

Type of Fieldwork: Interview

What I did:

We listened in an a conference where the three of them talked about topics in professional sports today.

What I learned:

We learned that If you look at the press boxes, the management, Mostly white, Gets more segregated when you go top the field or court
When Kaepernick kneeled during the anthem, society Metaphorically told him he was never going to play again

What I learned about Social Justice “work” and/or Civil and Human rights “work” from this fieldwork:

Kareem Abdul Jabbar sat out during the Olympics when they raised the fist. What Lebron is doing is great but not close to enough. Kaepernick and Eric Reed are suffering consequences when there are standing up social change Kaepernick’s goal was not to be the face of nike or no team to play for.
