Name: Anna Veronis

Social Justice Group: 2018-2019, Women: Maternal Health

Date of Fieldwork: December 4, 2018

Name of Organization: Nazdeek + Every Mother Counts

Person (people) with whom I met and their job titles: Christy Turlington, Jessica Browers, Melissa Gradilla + Nazdeek Organization

Type of Fieldwork: Webinar

What I did:

During this webinar our group learned more about international maternal health. We looked on with the Every Mother Counts group on the presentation that Nazdeek had made.

What I learned:

During this I learned about pregnant women, and post-natal women in New Dehli. Most work in the tea industry and make a mere $1.25 a day. Because of this these women don’t have the money to have a sustainable health care, which causes later complications. The companies goal is to help women achieve a maternal health care, but not only that they also teach them about their rights, and how to use them.

What I learned about Social Justice “work” and/or Civil and Human rights “work” from this fieldwork:

During this webinar I learned that the women in New Dehli do not know the rights they have, these women are working 14 hour days and being paid 1.25 for that, that is below minimum wage. Not only is this hurting their lives now, but it is going to hurt these women’s futures. Which is why the Nazdeek Orginazation is striving to fight for women!
