Lift Every Vote Fieldwork

Name: Sierra

Social Justice Group: 2018-2019

Date of Fieldwork: October 1, 2018

Name of Organization: Lift Every Vote

Person (people) with whom I met and their job titles: Brigette Olsen, Molly Harris

Type of Fieldwork: Direct Action

What I did:

In this field work we wrote letters to people in Florida trying convince people to vote to support amendment 4. This is to try and help ex felons be able to vote again because in Florida after you are arrested you cannot vote anymore, this is called enfranchisement.

What I learned:

During this fieldwork we learned 1.5 million felons can no longer vote and there needs to be at least 60% of Florida’s population for the amendment 4 to pass.

What I learned about Social Justice “work” and/or Civil and Human rights “work” from this fieldwork:

I learned it takes a lot of work and effort to get people to vote. A lot of people don’t vote because it takes a lot of effort to go and vote because it can be far away and sometimes once people have the opportunity to vote they are rejected.
