Name: Zariel
Social Justice Group: 2018-2019
Date of Fieldwork: October 1, 2018
Name of Organization: Lift Every Vote
Person (people) with whom I met and their job titles: We met with Molly Harris and Brigette Olsen
Type of Fieldwork: Direct Action
What I did:
We wrote postcards to registered voters in Florida. In the postcards, we shared the importance of voting and we encouraged them to vote at their local election.
What I learned:
I learned that in Florida some people don’t think that their vote matters so they choose not to vote because they don’t think that they can make a change with just their one vote. I also learned that whether or not Floridas Ex-Felons should get the right to vote is a very controversial topic.
What I learned about Social Justice “work” and/or Civil and Human rights “work” from this fieldwork:
Through the fieldwork, I learned that to make a change you might have to start small like sending postcards, but eventually after people start getting their postcards and start spreading the word your postcard can cause a chain reaction. I also learned how much you’re input matters and that if you want to make a change you just have to start small.
