Type of Fieldwork: Direct Action
What I did:
The Women’s March was an organized citywide march that protests policies regarding human rights and other issues, including women’s rights, reproductive rights and many things alike.
What I learned:
The march was a way of showing the people in power that we won’t stay quiet when our rights are in danger. I learned so much from just walking alongside strangers. Although this was not a traditional learning experience I felt that just seeing this many people stand for their rights was amazing. Some might feel alone in this fight for their rights and what they think is right but when you join a march with hundreds of other people it really shows you that you are never really alone. Many held up signs that were supporting women and girls education stating that they should receive the same as boys.
What I learned about Social Justice “work” and/or Civil and Human rights “work” from this fieldwork:
When I went to the march I was instantly amazed by the number of people that were there. Although I knew that many would be marching I didn’t realize the extent. Because I had previously gone to the Women’s march the previous year I thought it would be the same. Every year there will be a Women’s march and I feel that shows that the fight for equaltiy will never really be over. There is always a way to improve your current system. I think that also realtes to our SJ project because although we are going to be done with it that doesn’t mean we have fixed all the problems in our community, society, etc… I belive that there is always improve and you can make that improvement by doing somehting as small had walking with a bunch of strangers who are fighting for the same thing you are.
