Name: Freddie
Social Justice Group: Veterans/Life After War
Date of Fieldwork: January 16, 2018
Name of Organization: Ford Sypher
Person (people) with whom I met and their job titles: Ford Sypher
Type of Fieldwork: Interview
What I did:
We interviewed Ford Sypher about his experiences being in war and the troubles he had coming home, and how he gives back to the community.
What I learned:
We learned about a lot of the troubles veterans have coming home and not having access to the necessary health care. We also learned that there’s many organizations that put the veteran’s military skills to use, such as cleaning up debris from natural disasters.
What I learned about Social Justice “work” and/or Civil and Human rights “work” from this fieldwork:
We learned that there is a lack of social justice for veterans that need health care for PTSD or other war related injuries. There’s also a long wait time to get access to the benefits they are entitled to for being in the war. There is also a lot of organizations the put veterans skills to work, which is very important because it can give them a role in society again, and also put them back into what they are used too.
