Dawber the Executive Director and Founder, Courtney Biederbeck the Director of People and Strategy, Melissa Camadro the Director of Development, Jeannie Colangelo the Director of Finance and Technology.
Type of Fieldwork: Interview
What I did:
We met with Lima James. It was not a normal interview. She told us about herself and everything she does for Lifeway. She then had us talk about ourselves and asked us questions. Next we got to walk around the office and meet all the members who work there. We talked to them and listened to them explain what they do and then ask and answer questions.
What I learned:
I learned a lot about how much work goes into helping a victim. At first I though that they could just show up and ask for help. i then learned that there is a whole process for girls to go through in order to be helped by this organization. they have to have lawyers, and papers, and phone calls involved. This isn’t what I thought it would be like and this is definitely something I learned more about.
What I learned about Social Justice “work” and/or Civil and Human rights “work” from this fieldwork:
I also learned a lot more about SafeHomes and how they work. I didn’t know that they looked like a normal house anyone would live in. When i pictured it I pictured almost like a shelter. As they were describing it, it sounded more like my actual house. this was really interesting to me to learn about and get a better understanding.
