Interview with Key Burns

Name: Freddie

Social Justice Group: Veterans/Life After War

Date of Fieldwork: December 7, 2017

Name of Organization: H4HUS

Person (people) with whom I met and their job titles: Key Burns, founder

Type of Fieldwork: Interview

What I did:

We called Key Burns and interviewed her about her organization and what their mission is and how they help veterans.

What I learned:

We learned how horses can provide comfort for veterans. They act like service dogs, and provide comfort for veterans. They also provide jobs for veterans to make them feel like they have a purpose in society.

What I learned about Social Justice “work” and/or Civil and Human rights “work” from this fieldwork:

I learned that a lot of good can be provided from something bad. Key Burns’ best friend died because of PTSD and created the organization to help other veterans deal with this. She said over 250 veterans have been helped deal with their PTSD from the horses, and this would’ve never happened if it wasn’t because of something bad.
