2016-2017 Child Abuse Prevention

Volunteering with the New York Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children on 12/15/16

For our second meeting with the NYSPCC, we helped them sort out presents that they would hand out during their Christmas party. They had hundreds and hundreds of presents and the three of us sorted them all by age (not gender). After we were done sorting, the clinicians for each kid came and picked out presents for their kids. I really like their system because they don’t just randomly hand out presents to the kids, they have the clinitians who know the kids well, come in and carefully pick out what their kids would love. Although sorting presents was very draining, I’m glad that we were able to help out. The work we did wasn’t easy, and I think that the employees at the NYSPCC were really glad that we helped out. They also played some nice Christmas music so it was fun. I’m glad that our sorting helped kids get the personal presents that they deserve. After the Christmas party, Beverly Orth-Geoghegan, the development officer, sent us the pictures of the kids at the Christmas party. They looked really happy with all of the activities and I was really happy that we were able to help make that happen.

These are the presents after we sorted them into age groups.

These are gifts after the clinicians picked out presents for their kids.
