In this interview my team and I met with Talmage Cooley, he is the creator of the Center to Prevent Youth Violence. He fights Gun Violence and he is a huge advocate for Gun Control. On that day we met with Talmage in a busy restaurant called The Dojo. Through our interview we asked a few questions about what he does. He showed us how he was involved with the Gun Control and how we can be involved in it, for example he gave us an amazing but ambitious idea to create an organization of our own. He also gave us some contacts to talk to about volunteer work because one of our goals in this project is to actually make a difference in the world. He told us about an called the “Give a Hug Project” which is where you send a card with drawings or a message to send gun violence survivors. “Half of homes with children have a gun and half those guns are left unlocked or loaded” I discovered that as important Talmage is to gun control in America there are many more people trying to prevent gun violence but it really hasn’t changed. I asked Talmage if he thinks guns and gun laws will change by the next ten years and he said that there is a very low chance is will change for the better. This interview really helped our group on our project because we received a lot of new information about Gun Control. I want to remember that gun deaths are rarely from terrorists or gangs, but more suicides and sad mistakes kids have done. This will be very crucial for our group to talk about in our Teach-In.
