For our fourth fieldwork, we saw one of the last showings of the play Emotional Creature, which focuses on the issues of young women, both here and around the world. We saw it on January 10th, 2013 at the Signature Theater. The play showed snippets from the lives of various young women, from America to Asia. It talked about the concerns of young girls all across the world, from staying thin to staying alive. It was funny, vibrant, and at times very heartwarming. Although it derived slightly from our main topic, it was still fun and informative to watch. It was written by Eve Ensler, a Tony Awards winner, performer and New York Times best selling author, and it has received positive reviews from many people. The first showing was on January 14th, 2012, and the last one was on January 13th, 2013, so we were lucky to see it when we did.
This fieldwork didn’t require to much preparation, however getting there was very hectic. We went with the other women’s rights group. We left school early, and went over to our school’s high school building to meet a teacher there to take us to the play. But when we got there, we found out that she had gotten caught up in other things. So we went back to the middle school building, and our teacher Momii took us to the play. We got there by subway. Once there, Momii got our tickets, and we took our seats. Momii was only there for a few minutes though, since she had to leave early. Once it was over, we took the subway back to school, and each went home from there.
