Last Monday, Louie, Will and I met Donna Dees, the founder of Million Mom March. The second we started this project we immediately contacted her because of her status with the school and the world. We set up a interview with her at 10:00 PM Monday. We met in front of the school and walked to Coffee Bean. During the interview she told us about her organization, what it does, why she is doing it. Her organization, Million Mom March, was founded in 1999 by Donna Dees after she saw the shooting at the Los Angels Jewish Community Center on TV. She felt very encouraged to do something so she spread the word among moms to make gun laws stricter. After one year she had around 500,000 moms supporting her. So she held a March in DC which 750,000 people participated live and 150,000 people on TV. She has the world record for biggest march on gun violence prevention. She told us the way she got so many moms is because they are all friends with each other which gets the word spread around easily. She told us all these bizarre facts about the ratio of people who have criminal intent with a gun to people who have good intentions with a gun. To our groups surprise people with good intention with a gun have 2/3 of the gun deaths in America. All the outstanding facts she told us got our group really emotionally connected to the topic. At the end of the interview she told us some other near by organizations we should contact and after that we said our thank you and goodbyes.
