On Wednesday 11/18 the Freedom of Speech group and ours went to the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM). The movie we saw was about the Black Panther revolution from the 1960s-70s. They were a group of African American people striving for equal rights, opportunities, housing, and an end to prejudices against African-American people. They were primarily advocating for an end to racial profiling from the police. They used non-violent campaigns, programs that helped the community, but in the end they were no match for the police. They resorted to violence and ended up killing police officers, the police force was too corrupt and it began to corrupt their views on the topic too. Our groups received a lot of useful information from the movie that we will try to fit into our interviews. We had planned this fieldwork with the Freedom of Speech group as well as ours. We were planning to go by ourselves but we were then accompanied by our gym teacher, Peter, whom we invited after BAM alerted us we needed a chaperon. This was the second time that I had seen the movie, and I still gained new information.
