Interview with Patricia McCormick

On December 13th, my group and I had a 30 minute interview with the author of Sold, Cut and Never Fall Down, Patricia McCormick. Sold is book about a poor girl who is stuck struggling from Sexual Abuse in India. Our main focus was on the novel Sold and how sexual trafficking connects to Domestic Violence. before we made some connections, Patricia taught us a lot on Sexual Trafficking itself. I learned that mothers send their daughters to brothels thinking that they’re actually sending there daughters to a big city to earn some money for the family. But sadly, most of the time the young girls who are sent to brothels rarely get to make it home and become a part of the brothel. I always used to think that their was a big difference between Sexual Trafficking and Domestic Violence, and there still is but they have there similarities too. The men in both cases are always the stronger opponent. Men feel that they have all the power over women and that they can rule over them. Men in those situations think that they have the right to treat women badly. What I loved about the book Sold was that Patricia McCormick could take a very broad yet sensitive topic of Sexual Trafficking and turn it into a beautiful poetry book that moved many many people.
