We met with the director of the Soup Kitchen, 12/16/14
Our group went the the Holy Apostles Soup Kitchen from 9:00-1:00 to help out with whatever the Soup Kitchen needed volunteers for. The rest of the group bused tables after people were done eating while I wrapped spoons in napkins. The goal of this fieldwork was to help this organization help as many people get to a healthy hot meal on a cold December day. I think that our group did a good job getting the work done from actually helping the homeless people get their meal to traveling to the kitchen by ourselves.
In addition to feeling good about the work we did, this fieldwork in particular impacted my group because one woman wrote a note to Brandon and Lola. She wrote to our teachers saying that they had done a great job and that they were both wonderful people for volunteering especially at a young age. She was very sweet and she later met Mei and myself and she said that we all were so good to be doing this on our own free will. This women was not the only kind person to approach us on this fieldwork. A man who us also volunteering informed us that many of the people who came to soup kitchens had a home, and that they were only there because they just needed an extra meal. Many people thanked the rest of the group as they bused the tables while I wrapped the spoons with a group of volunteers. The volunteers were all somewhat older than me and they wanted to know a lot about the Social Justice Project, and how our eighth grade is making a difference. I want to remember all of the things that people said to our group for the Teach-In about either their story like the woman told Lola and Brandon, or about how important it is to do things like this. How small things can make a difference
