On the 24th, we went to the MCNY. I learned about a lot of things specifically surrounding Trans people in NYC throughout the years. We saw timelines, flyers, books, pins, posters, ect. One specific thing I learned was that Jennie June published Autobiography of an Androgyne, which was the first book to ever represent the experiences of someone who identifies as trans today in 1918. We also learned about the group called STAR. Street Transvestite Action Revolutionaries (STAR) was a gay, gender non-conforming, and transvestite street activist organization founded in 1970 by Sylvia Rivera and Marsha P. Johnson, famous New York City drag queens of color. STAR was a radical political collective that also provided housing and support to homeless LGBT youth and sex workers in Lower Manhattan. STAR is considered by many to be a groundbreaking organization in the queer liberation movement and a model for other organizations.
