Name: Otis Skinner

Social Justice Group: Food insecurity in NYC (B)

Date of Fieldwork: December 19, 2024

Name of Organization and person (people) with whom you met and their title(s):Caroline Walker – 5th grade humanities teacher who taught about food insecurity

What I did and what I learned about my topic, activism, social justice work or civil and human rights work from this fieldwork:

On December 19th, 2024, a few days before the break, me and my group mates took our lunch into the library to interview Caroline Walker; A fifth grade humanities teacher who Klara Moss, my groupmate, remembered had taught her about food insecurity when she was younger. We thought that it would be helpful to ask her what she knew about food insecurity in New York CIty.

Our interview with Caroline helped me and my groupmates find some very helpful information and resources for further research and fieldwork opportunities. Interviewing Caroline was very eye opening to me because she spoke about unfairness in the world with how some people are not able to know if they will have a meal.

This interview was very Helpful for me because it gave me motivation to try and get more fieldwork opportunities. This was a great starting point for our project and it made me very excited for future fieldwork projects.
