What I did and what I learned about my topic, activism, social justice work or civil and human rights work from this fieldwork:

On February 8th, Alex and I went to the Manhattan Church of Christ to help provide a free meal service with a man named Carl Garrison, Director of Homeless Outreach. When I got there, we set up chairs and Carl explained what to do. There were a bunch of things to do, and there was always something you could do, so it never got boring. I started by setting up the chairs, and then I put a bunch of cookies into cups to give to the people who came. Then, we took out boxes of Oreos and chips. Then, people started coming in and I gave them cookies and coffee. Then, after a little, we started handing out meals. We did this for a while, then took a break in a room we could chill in downstairs. After a little, I checked the time, and it was almost over. It had only felt like 45 minutes but 3 hours had gone by.

After I left I felt really good for the rest of the day. I kept thinking about the people I helped, the mothers, the fathers, the brothers, the sisters, and every time I thought of them I felt better knowing I made their day better. When I was at the church I saw some families there as well, giving out meals. When I saw this I thought that maybe some people could come here with their families some Saturday mornings to help the community.
