Name of Organization and person (people) with whom you met and their title(s): Denise Zaraya and Andrew King of IAS

Type of Fieldwork: Interview

What I did and what I learned about my topic, activism, social justice work, or civil and human rights work from this fieldwork?

At 2:00 on the 24th, we interviewed Denise Zaraya and Andrew King who for ally had worked for Integral Ad Science. Denise was one of the most important people at the start of the organization. Andrew was one of the main people who built the monitoring technology.

One of the main points we talked about was how all of the content we consume daily is free because of ads. Over three trillion ads are shown in just the U.S. alone every single day. The company they worked for, Integral Ad Science, monitors what web pages to see if they have hate displayed. Whether it be racism, sexism, homophobia, etc. They inform the companies who put up ads about these sites and these companies market their products somewhere else. This is just one thing people are doing to stop the spread of online hate.

This interview let us get up close and see what people are doing to stop this problem. It was really interesting and it added so much helpful information to our research.
