What I learned about Social Justice “work” and/or Civil and Human rights “work” from this fieldwork:
Both sides of this issue have deeply held beliefs. Some Republican lawmakers believe no taxpapyer dollars should go towards covering abortion services. These lawmakers don’t understand what it means in practice. Yes, we have a constitutional right to an abortion but if you don’t have money to pay for a healthcare service, it doesn’t matter if you have a legal right to access it. It is even more important to talk to our state and federal elected officials in the legislative branch to make progress to protect our rights. The judicial system is not favorable to right to abortion access right now.
