What I learned about Social Justice “work” and/or Civil and Human rights “work” from this fieldwork:
In a way I felt like this event was less education but very impactful. A lot of people I haven’t even heard about before talked about the death penalty. A lot of them saying you are on the right side of history, trying to abolish the death penalty. There were three people I somewhat knew, Jason George was a actor I have seen in shows, Sister Helen Prejean someone I was planing of emailing to talk with, and Bryan Stevenson the founder of a company I had interviewed. Then there were people I didn’t know of like Mike Radelet and Mike Farrell. There were also actors and producers from the movie Clemency who talked. There was one actor in particular who I liked, Alfre Woodard. She talked about how she felt like she was not called upon to talk about Clemency but was called to give permission to advocate for yourself, I found this very interesting.
