Reflection:

What I learned about Social Justice “work” and/or Civil and Human rights “work” from this fieldwork:

I learned a lot from our interview with Carolyn Swords, something that I thought was the most interesting is that she said the WNBA has gotten way more popular during last season. The main reason for this was because the WNBA league was moved to a “bubble” because of Covid and they kept their players in there so no one would get sick. This increased the WNBA fan base popularity because that forced broadcasting channels to broadcast every single game, before this they sometimes didn’t broadcast any. Since this happened every game was broadcasted making way more people at homes start watching the WNBA on a lot of broadcasting channels and found out they enjoyed it and continued to watch it. This is something that boosted population and since then they have been getting more viewing numbers. Another thing that I learned is that when people watch women’s sports they’ll see the similarities to men’s sports and watch it more often. By proof if there’s more women’s broadcasting more people will see it and start watching it. So if broadcasting for women’s sports goes up they’ll lose money at first, but in the long term they’ll get more popular and bring in way more viewers making broadcasters more money and more importantly making the women players more money and have more equality like in men’s sports.
