What I did:
What I learned:
What I learned about Social Justice “work” and/or Civil and Human rights “work” from this fieldwork:
I learned that a capital defence lawyer and a person on death row takes a terrible toll on a person mentally. Prison is overall a horrible experience and even more so when you are in prison for a crime you didn’t commit. It’s not easy to turn the courts decision on ruling someone innocent after they have been found as guilty. Death row is a lot of isolation and if you have mental illness in the past it can bring that back up and make it worse. People in death row also hold a lot of anger but learn to let it go for their own survival. Something I found interesting she said was the Death penalty is the step son to lynching.
