Interview with Robert Gangi

Name: Harrison

Social Justice Group: Race & Policing

Date of Fieldwork: November 29, 2018

Name of Organization: PROP: Police Reform Organization Project

Person (people) with whom I met and their job titles: Robert Gangi

Type of Fieldwork: Interview

What I did:

We called him and asked him some questions about what he does. We asked him what PROP is, what they do, and how they work. We wanted to understand how they connect with our topic.

What I learned:

Mr. Gangi taught us about what he does. He goes to courthouses and monitors what is going on to make sure suspects have a fair trial. We learned about Broken Windows theory, which is that police officers go into areas where there a lot crime and arrest a bunch of random people because they assume that there are breaking laws. This is an unfair policy.

What I learned about Social Justice “work” and/or Civil and Human rights “work” from this fieldwork:

I learned that there are a lot of unfair things that I didn’t notice much about before. This opened my eyes. I learned that there are many ways to be an activist. PROPs monitors the justice system to make sure people have fair trials and that police are being totally honest with the judges.
