Name: Rafaella Thakur Greene

Social Justice Group: 2018-2019, Education: Dropping Out

Date of Fieldwork: December 18, 2018

Name of Organization: LIFT

Person (people) with whom I met and their job titles: The majority of the LIFT staff and their members

Type of Fieldwork: Direct Action

What I did:

We were invited to LIFT’s holiday fiesta in november. We offered to host a gift drive to help get gifts for all the kids that would be going to the fiesta. We ended up getting over 80 gifts and donating them to LIFT for the party. We went to the party which was at their office and we helped set up and we each had different stations for arts and crafts. (Ana was on popcicle stick snowflakes, Leah was on paper ornaments and I was helping give gifts out.) The party was really nice there was food and a picture station and we took turns helping the kids at different stations.

What I learned:

It helped me think of these people less theoretically and less like than data or numbers like the interviews made me think of them. It made me see that these are real people and even the littlest things can help them have a better more positive life.

What I learned about Social Justice “work” and/or Civil and Human rights “work” from this fieldwork:

There is so many little or big things you can do to impact other people and to help them. So many people need help and there are many different ways that you can go about helping them.
