Name: Finn Barden

Social Justice Group: 2018-2019, Ocean Health

Date of Fieldwork: January 7, 2019

Name of Organization: New York Aquarium

Person (people) with whom I met and their job titles: Noah Chesnin and Edward Perri who both work at the aquarium

Type of Fieldwork: Tour of Organization

What I did:

We went on a tour of the NY Aquarium.

What I learned:

I learned about how aquariums are able to keep the fish healthy. I learned that aquariums have emergency supplies of water in case there is a hurricane.

What I learned about Social Justice “work” and/or Civil and Human rights “work” from this fieldwork:

I learned that there are many challenges that aquariums face while trying to take care of all the fish and coral and their habitats. I also learned that there are a lot of emergency procedures in case there is a problem like a hurricane or power outage.

I am an eighth grader at the Little Red Schoolhouse. My topic is environmental conservation, specifically ocean health. I care about my topic because I have loved the ocean since I was a little kid.
