Name: Sierra McDonald
Social Justice Group: 2018-2019, Women: Maternal Health
Date of Fieldwork: December 4, 2018
Name of Organization: Nazdeek Organization
Person (people) with whom I met and their job titles: Every Mother Counts, Nazdeek Organization
Type of Fieldwork: Wedinar
What I did:
We went to Every Mother Counts where we sat in on another webinar with the Nazdeek Organization. They also were proposing to partner with Every Mother Counts. The Nazdeek Organization is focused more on bring Justice to India incorperating women’s rights into maternal health care.
What I learned:
We learned how so many women in India are employed in the tea industry and they only make $1.25 a day to live off of. This is not enough money to live off of, never mind support a child. Their goal is to bring Justice by teaching women what rights they have and helping take action by teaching women the rights they deserve. They also partnered with the Hope organization whom is responsible for making maternal care centers more available to women.
What I learned about Social Justice “work” and/or Civil and Human rights “work” from this fieldwork:
During this webinar I learned how lucky we are to have access to things like health care and that we know what rights we have when many people don’t. This is important because how are women suppose to fight for their rights if they don’t know what they are?
