Date of Fieldwork: November 29, 2018
Name of Organization: Jacaranda Health
Person (people) with whom I met and their job titles: Jessica Bowers, Melissa Gradilla
Type of Fieldwork: Wedinar
What I did:
We went to Every Mother Counts headquarters and sat in on a webinar with Jacaranda Health. Jacaranda Health is an maternal health organization that was proposing a partnership with Every Mother Counts. When we got their we at in their conference room and wrote notes about Jacaranda Health and what they do.
What I learned:
During this webinar we learned about how Jacaranda Health is improving the maternal care in Kenya. This is so women can have a better safer pregnancies and this has been proven to be 66% more effective than normal hospitals. This organization has greatly improved health care in Kenya because they also ask women for feedback about their services and how they can further improve their organization.
What I learned about Social Justice “work” and/or Civil and Human rights “work” from this fieldwork:
At this webinar I learned how lucky we are to have so many necessaries when so many people do not have these thing available. Jacaranda Health is also funned by the government but only based on how many successful and safe pregnancies they have. They also explained how important it is to incorporate feedback because if they don’t improve over time and the government shuts them down so many people won’t have the care they need.
