Name: Charlie
Social Justice Group: 2018-2019
Date of Fieldwork: October 1, 2018
Name of Organization: Lift Every Vote
Person (people) with whom I met and their job titles: Molly Harris, Brigette Olsen
Type of Fieldwork: Direct Action
What I did:
We wrote postcards to citizens of Florida who had there signatures challenged and we writing to them to push idea that x- felons should be able to vote.
What I learned:
I learned that you could get your signatures challenged by other citizens and that x- felons were not allowed to vote even after they have served there time in jail.
What I learned about Social Justice “work” and/or Civil and Human rights “work” from this fieldwork:
I learned that even though x-felons are still citizens of our country, they don’t have the right of other citizens in our country. Like how they are not vote even after they have served their time in prison. Everyone makes mistakes, some worse than others but our country does not give second chances to them. They are treated like they don’t belong and basically lose their civil rights when you go to prison. Our country does not give second chances often and you become an outlaw of this country.
