Lift Every Vote work

Name: Polly

Social Justice Group: 2018-2019

Date of Fieldwork: October 1, 2018

Name of Organization: Lift Every Vote

Person (people) with whom I met and their job titles: Molly Harris and Brigette Olsen

Type of Fieldwork: Direct Action

What I did:

We wrote postcards to people who signed the Amendment 4 petition, but their signatures were denied. We wrote the postcards to tell them to vote early so their votes don’t get denied because amendment 4 needs 60% of the vote to pass, so it is crucial that people get out and vote.

What I learned:

I learned that it takes a lot to help people get out and vote. Not many people take the initiative to get out and vote early without being reminded, and sometimes those who do take the initiative have other problems voting. Voting isn’t easy.

What I learned about Social Justice “work” and/or Civil and Human rights “work” from this fieldwork:

I learned that social justice work can be done in your living room. It’s really easy to get involved. You could travel across the world to help people in developing countries or write postcards at home. Any kind of social justice work makes important change.
