Helping Pass Amendment 4

Name: Drew

Social Justice Group: 2018-2019

Date of Fieldwork: October 1, 2018

Name of Organization: Lift Every Vote

Person (people) with whom I met and their job titles: Molly Harris, Brigette Olsen

Type of Fieldwork: Direct Action

What I did:

We were writing postcards to help pass Amendment 4 in Florida.

What I learned:

I learned that Amendment 4 is a law to re-enfranchize felons. Amendment 4 needs 60% of the vote to pass. Amendment 4 is trying to re-enfranchize 1.5 million felons. The passing of Amendment 4 can lead to re-enfranchising felons all over the US.

What I learned about Social Justice “work” and/or Civil and Human rights “work” from this fieldwork:

I learned that even a 13-year-old kid can make a big difference to sway a legal voter to vote. If verbal or electronic messaging can’t work, take action physically and write something handwritten to a direct person.
